The series of collisions happened around 5:45 a.m. near the corner of Steeles Avenue West and Heritage Road.
Amazon Canada confirmed that both women were its employees.

“Our thoughts are also with our employee who is currently in hospital. We are providing resources to support victims’ families and our workforce. We also offer our full cooperation to the local authorities.”
Both women were hit by the third driver
A 41-year-old woman was crossing Steeles southbound when she was struck by an eastbound driver, police say. The impact threw her into the oncoming westbound lanes, where she was hit by another vehicle.
The driver involved in the first collision remained at the scene while the driver involved in the second left, Peel police said. Mandeep Khatra.
A 30-year-old woman, who was also on foot, tried to help the woman after she was hit by both cars. Both were then hit by a third driver, Khatra said.
The elderly woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the good Samaritan is in hospital with life-threatening conditions.
The driver involved in the third collision also remained at the scene, Khatra said.
Peel police said they are looking for the driver who left the scene. They were behind the wheel of a medium-sized SUV. Khatra urged that person to contact a lawyer and surrender to the police.
The intersection is closed in all directions for the inspection.
