At 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Gaal returned to his home in Forest Hills after a night out at Lincoln Center and a stop at a local bar. About 10 minutes later, police said Bonola showed up to talk to her about their relationship.
There were no signs of forced entry, and police say he was either released or used a key hidden in a barbecue.
At one point, Bonola and Gaal began arguing, and he pulled out a knife and stabbed her “mercilessly and brutally” more than 55 times, said Chief of Detectives James Essig.
“We believe that Mr. Bonola’s relationship with our victim was an intimate one, and that boils down to domestic disputes over their intimate relationships,” said NYPD Queens North Lt. Timothy Thompson of the NYPD Queens North Division. murders. . Authorities said Bonola was seen on video rolling the bag containing Gaal’s body, believed to be her son’s hockey bag. , leaving what Esig described as a “bloody” trail through the streets of Forest Hills. “
An observation image, which is crucial to the case, is said to show Bonola dragging the bag just before sunrise.
According to officials, after the body was dumped, Bonola fled through the park, where investigators found his jacket.
They also said bloody bandages were found during the investigation and that Bonola had been treated for wounds on both his hands at a local hospital.
On Wednesday night, while detectives were looking for videos, Bonola turned to officers and voluntarily agreed to go to section 112.
“He made incriminating statements,” Esig said. “We will not go into what he is talking about.
After the murder, police believe Bonola sent a text message to Gaal’s husband from her phone, mentioning a previous crime and showing that the rest of the family was in danger.
However, police said there had been no past crime and no danger to Gaal’s wife and two children, the youngest of whom was upstairs in the home, unaware that his mother had been killed in the basement.
Bonola, who arrived in the United States 21 years ago from Mexico, has no known criminal history.
