Oakville Coronavirus Update November 26, 2022

This is the coronavirus update for Oakville for Saturday, November 26, 2022. Cases in the city are up more than 25% this week, and Oakville is reporting its first two deaths from COVID-19 this month.

While active outbreaks have declined in Halton, two new ones have been discovered in Oakville, both in long-term care homes: the first at Northridge-Oakville Post and the second at West Oak Village’s Howell House and Chalmers House.

Halton Region’s vaccination program reached an incredible milestone this week: Regional Health has administered more than 1.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The increase in vaccinations across the province, including at the local level, has been particularly slow, at a 70% slower pace than in the fall of 2021. This applies to those getting their first or second dose, or those getting booster shots ( including the already available bivalent booster dose.)

Active cases and hospitalizations are increasing in most parts of Ontario and across Canada. Globally, cumulative confirmed cases have exceeded 635 million. More than 6.6 million people died.

Cumulative cases in Ontario reached a grim pandemic milestone last week: more than 1.5 million cases have now been reported since the pandemic began in early 2020. While some of those counted cases are re-infections, that doesn’t include the estimated hundreds of thousands uncounted cases from the last three years.

**Vaccine back-up: Fourth doses (second booster doses) of the vaccine are now available to everyone on Halton aged 12 and over, although fourth doses must have been at least five months since your last dose and 90 days since exposure to COVID-19.

Halton continues to reserve first- and second-dose vaccinations for all residents six months and older, plus third-dose boosters for anyone age 12 and older.
