Football star Cristiano Ronaldo today dedicated his 100th Premier League goal to his newborn son, who tragically died raising his left arm and pointing to the sky in a muted and heartbreaking celebration on his return to Manchester United.
The devastated Portuguese footballer scored in the first half of Arsenal after home fans rose to applaud United’s number 7 when the clock struck the seventh minute in solidarity.
Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced five days ago that one of their newborn twins had died. The 37-year-old striker then took compassionate leave from the club to be with his family and mourn their loss.
He stayed out of a 4-0 loss to Liverpool on Tuesday, but took part in a full training session in Carrington with teammates and continued to train this week.
Ronaldo’s goal at the Emirates Stadium came in the 34th minute and reduced Arsenal’s lead to 2-1. It was his 16th in the Premier League this season after returning from Real Madrid, in addition to the 84 goals in his first period at United from 2003 to 2009.

The Manchester United star posted on Instagram that one of the newborn twins he was expecting with his partner Georgina Rodriguez has died.
In a statement, the couple said they were in “the greatest pain” to confirm that their baby had died. The other newborn twin, a girl, survived.
The 37-year-old’s sister, Katya Aveiro, posted a message from her home in Brazil, saying, “Our little angel is already in Dad’s lap,” a reference to their father, Dinis, who died in 2005.
She said, “I love you and my heart is with you there. May God take care of you and strengthen your path more and more.
“Our angel is already in his father’s lap. And our little girl is there firm, strong and full of health and will show us every day that only love matters.
She posted the message along with photos of the couple with her two children.
Ronald and Georgina received an outpouring of love after returning home with their newborn daughter on Thursday, days after confirming that the child’s twin brother had died in childbirth. He shared an update on social media shortly after their baby girl returned from the hospital after giving birth on Monday.
Posting a photo of his 430 million followers, Ronaldo held his daughter while he was accompanied by his Spanish partner Georgina and their four children – three of whom the footballer gave birth to as surrogates.
Signing the publication, he wrote: “Home, sweet home. Gio and our little girl are finally with us. We want to thank everyone for their kind words and gestures.
“Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect you feel for our family. Now is the time to be grateful for the life we have just accepted into this world.
Relatives and footballers showed great support for the couple, with Ronaldo’s sister, Katya Aveiro, writing in Portuguese: “Amo demais” – translated as “I love so much”, and Georgina’s sister, Ivana Rodriguez, commented: “God bless you” .
Teammate Rashford, former Real Madrid star Jesse Rodriguez, former Chelsea captain John Terry and Dutch footballer Leandro Fernandez also shared emojis for heart and prayer in response to the publication.
Ronaldo’s post was made shortly after he returned to full training with Manchester United.

The couple revealed for the first time that they are expecting twins in October, posting a photo on social media, in which they are holding a baby scanner in bed.
“We are pleased to announce that we are expecting twins. “Our hearts are full of love – we can’t wait to meet,” Ronaldo wrote. A photo of the player with his four children in his hot tub was also shared, all holding two fingers to represent the twins.
The couple already have a four-year-old daughter, Alana Martina, who was born in November 2017.
Ronaldo is also the father of 11-year-old Cristiano Jr., whose mother is kept secret by the footballer. The United goal scorer is also the father of four-year-old twins Mateo and Eva, who are said to have been born through a surrogate in 2017.
Ronaldo’s sister Katya Aveiro sent messages of support, posting photos of the grieving couple with their son Jose.
“I love you and my heart is with you there,” the singer wrote on social media. “May God take care of you and strengthen your path more and more.”

Georgina shares her three-year-old daughter Alana with Cristiano, and the Manchester United star also has a son, 11-year-old Cristiano, and twins, Eva and Mateo, four.

And Ronaldo’s teammate Marcus Rashford wrote: “Thoughts are with you and Georgina, brother. So sorry.’
After her meeting in 2016, Miss Rodriguez followed five-time Golden Ball winner Ronaldo from Madrid to Turin and then Manchester when he left Real Madrid for Juventus and United.
Ronaldo Cristiano Jr.’s eldest son was born in the United States in 2010, but immediately returned to Madrid to be raised in Spain. His mother’s identity is unknown.
