The Canford Heath Fire Evacuation Center opens at the Ashdown Recreation Center

An evacuation center has opened its doors to residents evacuated from their homes in Canford Heath.

People were told to avoid the area as firefighters battled the raging fire on the ground.

Many people who are already in their homes are told to close their windows and doors.

Police use a tannoy helicopter to order people from the wilderness.

The evacuation center has opened at the Ashdown Entertainment Center.

Dorset police are helping with the incident, and the Ashdown Recreation Center is opening as a local evacuation center for anyone without access to their homes.

Roads in the area are closed as fire crews try to put out the blaze.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said in an update: “Much of our resources are still present.

“With several roads closed, we still advise the public to avoid the area. The #AshdownLeisureCentre is open as a local evacuation point for anyone who does not have access to their homes.”
