Another senior lawmaker said: “I actually heard a cabinet minister say ‘maybe a period in opposition is what we need.’ According to the MP, the minister said: “Things are so shambolish and who is there to take over? A period of opposition will allow people to pass.”
Mr Johnson received notice of a fixed fine of £ 50 after attending a small cabinet meeting to mark his 56th birthday in June 2020.
But police are investigating five other incidents he allegedly attended. One was a reunion at his apartment on November 13, 2020, the day Dominic Cummings, his former senior adviser, was forced to leave Downing Street.
Abba’s songs, including The Winner Takes It All, are said to have been heard from the apartment. Mr Johnson denied there was a party, but declined to say publicly whether he was in the apartment that night. Carrie Johnson, his wife, was reportedly there that evening.
At a meeting of the Conservative Parliamentary Party on Tuesday night, Aaron Bell, a Conservative MP from Newcastle Under Lyme, allegedly congratulated Mr Johnson on his efforts to help Ukraine against the Russian invasion, but added: “But the ‘party door’ it really does matter, so I have to ask you if you maintain what you said in January that what happened in the apartment was work. ”Mr Johnson replied that he remained confident.
