Gabriel Jesus has rejected claims that Manchester City are the champions in the wait after their overall 5-1 victory over Watford.
Pep Guardiola’s side are already four points away from second-placed Liverpool in Sunday’s Merseyside derby after replacing the Hornets. Four goals from Gabriel Jesus and a single shot from Rodri showed that City turned on the style and sent a new answer to the Reds.
Now it is up to Liverpool to reduce the difference in the top of the Premier League back to one point when they face Everton, as the people of Jurgen Klopp are determined to continue the battle for first place until the last game of the season. City was the team that came out on top last time, when both teams fought at the end of the season in 2018/19 and on this occasion another final is expected in the stands.

The Reds will have to keep hoping that one of the five remaining opponents of City will be able to trip them up, although Saturday’s evidence suggests that this may be a serious task given the absolute dominance of the triumph over Watford.
However, the defending champions continue to keep their feet on the ground, as Jesus demonstrated when he spoke after being killed by four goals. Asked if he “considers City champions again”, the Brazilian told beIN SPORTS: “Of course not.
“We are champions from last year, but not this year. We have five finals left, but now we have to think about Real Madrid, because it will be a difficult match.”
In a separate interview with City’s official website, Jesus added that his country could not afford to be distracted by Liverpool’s results and needed to focus entirely on itself.
“We have to do our job, not look at them (Liverpool),” said the Brazilian international, who will be with City for their first Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in the middle of the week. “We know they have a lot of amazing players and they can win all the games. We are ahead and, of course, it is not easy, but we have to do our job.
“Now is the most important part of the season with the final matches deciding the trophies. We lost one cup (Liverpool FA Cup semi-final), so we have to play every match as a final.”
