Chris Rock’s mother spoke about the slap her son received from Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars, blowing up the actor’s actions.
Rose Rock, author and motivational speaker, spoke to WIS-TV in South Carolina about the incident in which Smith took the stage and hit Rock after telling a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her shaved head.
“You reacted to your wife watching you from the sidelines, and you went and fixed her day because she was meant to laugh when that happened,” Rock said.
Rose Rock said she watched from home and initially thought the incident was staged until Smith started saying, “Get my wife’s name out of your devil.”
“When he hit Chris, he hit us all. He really hit me.

“You reacted to your wife looking at you from the side and you went and fixed her day because she was meant to laugh when that happened,” Rock said of the incident.
Rock said her son was excited to present the Best Documentary Award to his friend Questlove (although Rock could not have known that The Roots drummer would win some time ago) and that Smith’s actions spoiled his speech.
“No one even heard his speech. No one could just be in the moment because everyone was sitting there like “what just happened?”
The academy banned Smith for 10 years for his actions. Rock seemed to think it was appropriate.
“I wouldn’t take away his prize and I don’t see a good way to get him out without violating him,” she said.
Smith apologized via Instagram, which Rock found less than convincing.
Rose Rock said she watched from home and initially thought the incident was staged until Smith started saying, “Get my wife’s name out of your mouth, damn it.”
“I feel very bad that he never apologized,” she said. “I mean, people wrote him an article saying I apologize to Chris Rock, but if you see that something like that is personal, reach out.
Smith was all smiling when he landed in India on Saturday – where he was first seen after the scandalous Oscar slap.

Smith is reportedly in India to meet with spiritual leader Sadguru, whom Smith and his family met in 2020 in Los Angeles.
Dressed casually in a white T-shirt, dark gray shorts over white compression tights and a pair of Nike sneakers, Smith looked calm and happy after landing in South Asia.
As the staff helped him unload from the vehicle, close fans shouted “Will, Will Smith!”
Smith then took a few selfies with the security guard and turned to the fans shouting his name, waving to them as he smiled before continuing to take a few more selfies and enter a building where he hugs someone.
This is the first time Smith has been seen in public nearly a month after slapping the ceremony and comedian Chris Rock on live TV and in front of his colleagues after joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s joke.

Smith took the time to talk to security guards who helped him out of his cars, taking many pictures.
After waving to the fans and taking a few pictures, Smith entered the building to greet someone with a hug.
In the past, Jada has been open about fighting alopecia.
After the slap, Will returned to his seat and shouted twice, “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.”
The slap divided Hollywood and the public, with some insisting he should be stripped of his Oscars and not rewarded for violence, while others said he was advocating for his wife.
Several film projects in which Smith was involved were postponed after the dispute, including the sequel to the 2017 sci-fi action thriller “Bright”, directed by David Ayer, which was canceled by Netflix, Bloomberg reported.
Smith’s natural series on National Geographic, “Pole to Pole”, which follows the 53-year-old star at the North and South Poles and was due to begin filming in three weeks, has been suspended until the fall of 2022, the publication said.
Additional projects Smith has ordered that have been defeated include a film about Sony that has been postponed and another Netflix project for “Fast and Free.”
Netflix was in the midst of finding a new director for the film after David Leach left the film before the Oscars.
Sony’s film “Bad Boys 4”, which had begun pre-production before the awards ceremony, was also postponed.
Amid growing pressure, Will resigned from the Academy and apologized to Chris Rock for not responding publicly.
But two weeks after the awards night, the Academy imposed a ten-year ban on the actor from participating in all of his events, while issuing a statement criticizing his “unacceptable” and “harmful” behavior.
“During our TV show, we did not address the situation in the room adequately. We are sorry for that, “the academy said in a statement. “It was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, spectators and our family from the Academy around the world, and we failed – unprepared for the unprecedented.
“The Governing Board has decided that for a period of 10 years from 8 April 2022, Mr Smith will not be allowed to attend any events or programs of the Academy, personally or virtually, including, but not limited to, the awards of the Academy.
Smith is reportedly in India to meet with spiritual leader Sadguru, whom Smith and his family met in 2020 in Los Angeles.
Smith said he was a big fan of Sadguru and had followed him since reading his book, Internal Engineering, and wanted to introduce his family’s guru.
After their meeting, Willow Smith revealed that Sadguru had helped her overcome an “existential crisis” by saying she was “grateful” for the moment.
“We would like to express our deep gratitude to Mr Rock for maintaining his composure in extraordinary circumstances. We would also like to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our TV show. ‘
After the decision was made, Smith issued a statement saying, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”
The actor had already left the Academy when the ban was issued.
Smith documented one of his meetings with Sadguru at his home in Los Angeles in 2020.
The 65-year-old yogi, whose real name is Jagi Vasudev and who owns an ashram in India, has set up his own non-profit spiritual foundation and has more than three million followers on Twitter.
Smith said he was a big fan of Sadguru and had followed him since reading his book, Internal Engineering, and wanted to introduce the guru to his family.
“I wanted my family to meet spiritual people, to start interacting with people who are not attached to the material world,” he said.
In a video shared on Smith’s social media, Sadguru is seen stopping by the actor’s home on a motorcycle and talking to him and his daughter Willow.
Sadguru tells the group, “In every area of life, those who are most successful are always the most unhappy people because they reach the top of the world and the top of the world doesn’t feel like the top of the world.”
“What happened yesterday, they are suffering today. Do you suffer your life or memory? You’re just suffering from your memory, “he told the attentive Smith.
