Rockets hit an apartment building in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has threatened to abandon peace talks over Moscow’s attempts to crush the last pocket of resistance in Mariupol.
Russia’s attack on Azovstal’s steel plants comes just days after Vladimir Putin said his troops would not storm the hideout of hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.
“If our people are killed in Mariupol, Ukraine will withdraw from any negotiation process,” Zelensky said before meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in Kyiv.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr Zelenski gave some details about the meeting, but said he expected concrete results – “not just gifts or cakes, we expect concrete things and concrete weapons”.
Earlier, Russia struck several cities in southern and eastern Ukraine, killing a three-month-old baby along with eight others in the Black Sea port city of Odessa.
“The war started when this baby was one month old. Can you imagine what is happening? “- said Zelenski.
