UPDATE at 10:48

Kelowna’s fire department responded to a fire in City Park just before 11pm on Sunday night.

Fire crews received a report of a fire in City Park at 10:45 p.m. at 1600 Abbott St.

“Upon arrival, the teams found a 20-kilogram propane tank that leaked propane, along with many other items on fire, including clothing, bicycle tires and other staff items. The items are believed to belong to a homeless person. The crews put out the fire and called the city’s statutes to clean up the area, “said the captain of the Kelowna Fire Department platoon, Chris Zimmerman.

The fire was reported by two men who noticed the fire and called 911. Eyewitness reports said that two 20-kilogram tanks of propane were removed from the fire before igniting, but one of the tanks was lit up.

The Kelowna Fire Department said the situation and the fire were suspicious and reminded people that campfires were banned in Kelowna.

A fire was reported at night in Kelowna City Park.

Apparently a homeless cart full of their belongings caught fire.

So far, little is known and there is no information from the Kelowna fire department, but witnesses say the fire began to climb a nearby tree.

“Explosions were seen and heard when someone grabbed two propane tanks and escaped from hell before firefighters appeared,” said a Castanet witness.

It is not yet known if there were any casualties in the accident.
