Tonight’s TV: It’s… a magnificent re-enactment of the Wagata Christie trial | television

Vardy vs Rooney: Court drama

21:00, Channel 4

This year’s Wagata Christie trial will go down in the history books. The story of Rebecca Vardy’s libel case against Coleen Rooney – with its courtroom dissection of Peter Andre’s chipola and an analysis of how to argue with a pigeon – hardly needs embellishing to become high entertainment. So this double-parter uses the real transcripts for a lauded reconstruction. But with Natalia Tena and Chanel Creswell as the warring Wags and Michael Sheen clearly having fun as Rooney’s lawyer, oh how glorious it is. The first episode hears Vardy’s side of things, while tomorrow’s finale sees Rooney refer to memes as evidence (including one of two female faces photoshopped onto Scooby-Doo characters). Outsiders

10pm, Dave

This fun, if close to Taskmaster, series of challenges ends with some more absurd outdoor activities. Phil Wang and Fatiha El-Ghori discover a loophole in a plumbing challenge. And a mannequin of the host, David Mitchell, has been laid to rest in a variety of charmingly bleak and sometimes downright macabre ad hoc funerals. Good fun. Phil Harrison

Rosie Molloy gives it all up

22:00, Sky Comedy

Rosie Molloy (Sheridan Smith) copes with her father’s death using her usual nasty cocktail of chain smoking, cheap jokes, wine and more failed attempts to come clean. Maybe when reality sets in at the funeral where they throw peanut M&M’s on her father’s casket (he had a peanut allergy) she’ll be moved to make a real change? Or not. HR

Lionesses: Champions of Europe

10.40pm, BBC One

This holiday documentary follows their journey through the eyes of manager Sarina Wigman, captain Leah Williamson and team members such as Jill Scott, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze. Ian Wright and Alex Scott also share their praise and explain exactly what an important moment this is for women in sport. HR

Animal attraction… Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in Beauty and the Beast. Photo: PictureLux/The Hollywood Archive/Alamy

Beauty and the Beast (Bill Condon, 2017) 2.45pm, BBC One ‘Beauty is within’ is the sensible message of Bill Condon’s unashamedly romantic action version of the fairy tale – although it helps if your suitor turns Dan Stevens at the end. Emma Watson brings Hermione practicality (and a decent singing voice) to French bookworm Belle, who bonds with her furry captor over a shared love of literature. Ewan McGregor (candelabra), Ian McKellen (clock) and Emma Thompson (kettle) provide comic relief as animated household appliances, while Be Our Guest, with its Busby Berkeley flair, is the standout number on the soundtrack.
