A pedestrian from Southend has died following an alleged hit and run at 2am

A pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead in the early hours following an alleged hit and run.

Police have launched an investigation following this morning’s fatal crash in Southend.

Officers were at the scene for several hours on Southchurch Road following the incident at 2am today as the road was partially closed for several hours.

Essex Police were called to reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Southchurch Road, traveling towards Shoebury.

The force as well as ambulance crews attended and unfortunately the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved, which police say was a light-colored vehicle, did not stop at the scene.

Southchurch Road was closed between Lifstan Way and Surbiton Road until around 8.30am.

Officials say their investigations are ongoing.
