Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has more than 20 points lead in the primary Republican gubernatorial race against former Sen. David Purdue (Ga.), According to a new study by the University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs on behalf of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution .
A poll of likely Republican primary voters found that 53 percent of voters support Kemp in the race, while 26 percent support Perdue.
Similar results were obtained when asked whether respondents approve of men, with Kemp’s favorable score of 71 percent and Perdue’s 57 percent.
As the primary election approaches on May 24, Kemp is consistently chosen as the GOP’s favorite.
The results of the poll were published two days after Kemp and Purdue held a debate, determined by differences of opinion on the 2020 presidential election and its consequences.
During the debate, Purdue continued to spread the false claim made by former President Trump that the 2020 election had been stolen, and accused Kemp of having Democrats in control of the White House and Senate.
“The only reason I’m not in the United States Senate is because you backed down and gave the election to the Liberal Democrats,” said Purdue, who lost his seat in the Senate of the current Senate. John Osof (D) told Kemp during the debate.
“Weak leaders blame everyone else for their own loss instead of themselves,” Kemp said.
Kemp has angered Trump and those who mistakenly believe the election was stolen to verify Georgia’s election results, rejecting Trump’s request to reject them.
“I have always said that there are frauds in all elections and when I was secretary of state I persecuted him,” Kemp said on Sunday. “I did not say that there were no problems in this election. Look, I was as disappointed as anyone. ”

In the poll, 87 percent said electoral security was extremely or very important, while almost 60 percent were very or somewhat confident that the 2020 elections were fair and accurate.
The primary election will take place on May 24, with the winner facing Democratic Gov. Candidate for governor Stacy Abrams, who lost to Kemp in a fiercely contested campaign in 2018.
The poll was conducted on April 10-22 among 886 likely Republican voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
