A child was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Salford. Emergency services arrived at the scene at around 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon (April 26th).
The accident happened at the Barton Road / Liverpool Road junction in Eccles, on the Patrickroft Bridge. The road was immediately cut off, with officers and paramedics remaining on the scene for about two hours.
The child, whose age has not yet been confirmed, was taken to the Children’s Hospital in Royal Manchester by ambulance from the scene, and traffic police continue to make inquiries. An air ambulance and advanced paramedics landed at the scene.

Eyewitnesses say they saw a small child surrounded by paramedics at the scene. One man told MEN there were “at least seven police cars” at the scene, as well as an ambulance and an air ambulance that landed nearby.

A spokesman for the Northwest Ambulance said: “ We received a call at 3:24 p.m. today to report that a person had been hit by a car. We sent an ambulance, RRV, paramedic and air ambulance to the scene and treated a child with serious injuries and took him to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital by ambulance. ”
Greater Manchester police tweeted: “Motorcyclists are advised to avoid Liverpool Road near Worsley Road in Eccles, while employees are at the scene after a traffic accident. Traffic is expected and drivers are encouraged to find an alternative route, while emergency services remain in place. “
Fire crews from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were also present at the scene for about 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoon. A spokesman said: “It was only after 3:30 this afternoon (April 26) that firefighters were called to report a car accident on Liverpool Road in Eccles. There’s a fire truck from Eccles.
“The crews worked with colleagues from the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and the Northwest Ambulance (NWAS) at the scene. One victim was transported to a hospital by NWAS, and firefighters were present for about half an hour.
