A man who was questioned about the abduction of a missing 33-year-old woman from Lancashire is now under arrest for murder after police said there was only “low hope” that she was alive.
Katie Kenyon of Paddyham was seen leaving an address on Todmorden Road, Burnley, on Friday morning. A woman matching her description was seen with a man traveling in a silver Ford Transit.
More than 60 detectives from four police forces are searching a rural beauty site in Lancashire. A 50-year-old man from Burnley, who was questioned on suspicion of kidnapping, was further arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday.
Detectives are expected to ask magistrates more time to question the suspect, who is believed to be known to Kenyon. DS Gary Brooks, head of the Lancashire Police Serious Crimes Unit, said: “While I have little hope that Katie can still be found alive, I regret to say that Katie has been missing for more than four days.
“Despite extensive police investigations and media calls, we have not found Katie, nor have there been any observations of Katie.
“Today we spoke with Katie’s family and they are understandably extremely upset by this latest development and I have staff who continue to offer them support. At the moment, my thoughts are with them. “
He added that police were searching several places, including Gisborne Forest in the Ribble Valley, and urged people to leave the search to specially trained officers.
The area of interest is the largest wooded area in the county, measuring over 4.6 square miles and is popular with pedestrians and cyclists.
Kenion is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches, with blond hair to the shoulders. She was last seen wearing a blue cardigan, a light blue and white top and a black legging.
She has not been seen since she disappeared on Friday morning.
