Carlo Ancelotti smiled when asked about Antonio Rudiger’s move to Real Madrid (beIN Sports)
Carlo Ancelotti was restrained by Real Madrid’s pressure to sign Antonio Rudiger after his team lost 4-3 to Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.
Pep Guardiola’s team overtook Madrid in an exciting match at the Etihad Stadium, with goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva securing victory for the Premier League champions.
However, Madrid is heading for a rematch still in the draw, after Karim Benzema scored on both sides in a brilliant solo shot by Vinicius Junior.
Madrid, meanwhile, are in the lead for Rudger to sign for Chelsea at the end of the season, with the German international ready to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires this summer.
Rudiger’s agent has also held talks with Manchester United and Barcelona, but it is understood that Madrid has already reached an agreement to sign the 29-year-old for a free transfer.
However, Ancelotti refused to give anything after the loss of Madrid to City on Tuesday night.
Asked about the potential relocation of Rudiger to Madrid from beIN Sports, Ancelotti asked with a smile: “Who is this?
Ancelotti added: “He is a Chelsea player, he is still a Chelsea player. I can’t say anything about that.
On Sunday, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel acknowledged that the club’s sanctions had played a role in their inability to reach an agreement on a new deal for Rudiger.
“We fought hard,” Tuhel said.
“I fought hard on a personal level. We made him big offers and the club tried everything.

“But we have not been able to fight for several weeks because we have sanctions. We can’t adjust. We cannot go on and on.
“He deserves my full support because he has shown incredible performances to date.
“I am happy that I had the chance to train him and have him in the team. Because he was nothing but brilliant.
