Winnipeg –
The low-cost airline Swoop said it was suspending flights between Winnipeg and Toronto, citing labor shortages in the aviation industry as a factor.
An airline spokesman confirmed the move to CTV News in an email, noting that the shutdown will begin on June 20.
“We know that flight changes can be frustrating, and we sincerely apologize to passengers for the inconvenience,” said Serena Davis, senior communications adviser at Swoop.
“The schedules are prepared many months in advance and reflect the expected demand for passengers and operational capacity. As we continue to address various recovery challenges, including demand volatility, labor shortages in addition to trade opportunities, we are proactively adjusting the schedule to minimize last-minute flight changes or interruptions for an upcoming summer trip. “
The airline said the affected passengers were sent directly by email with re-accommodation options, including re-booking with Swoop, or they may receive a full refund. Travelers can also book a re-available WestJet flight, which can be made through the Swoop Contact Center, Davis said.
