It was shortly after midnight when the peace and quiet of an apartment building in Wavertray was disturbed by the sound of three gunshots.
A 50-year-old woman was shot in the leg after a gunman broke into a house in Deverland Grove shortly after 12:15 pm yesterday (Tuesday). It is alleged that a man entered the address looking for someone and shots were fired at the exit, one of which hit the victim in the leg.
The gunman then fled on a motorcycle with two other men, and it is believed that the motorcycle was driven on Mill Lane to Edge Lane. Emergency services were received and the victim was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Yesterday, the quiet closure near Deverell Road was a beehive of police activity. As Matrix officers searched the area with their fingertips, crime scene investigators combed the scene while detectives conducted house-to-house searches.
Neighbors said they were shocked by what happened. One woman said the victim was lying on the couch watching TV when the attacker struck.
A neighbor described the victim, a mother of four, as “a wonderful man with a heart of gold.” She added: “The poor woman was not doing anything wrong. She was in her own home and it happened to her. I think it’s disgusting. I’m just glad she’s fine.”
While another man said, “I was in bed when I heard gunshots. It was one shot, followed by two others, and I knew it wasn’t a fireworks display. Ten minutes later, it was like a police depot with all the police here.”

Police said the investigation is in its infancy and is working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. They confirmed that a man had entered the property in search of someone, and when the victim followed him to the front door, she was shot in the leg.
Speaking to reporters yesterday (Tuesday), Chief Inspector Matthew Moscrop said: “We have a good idea of the course of events, but we are just trying to get as much information as possible from the community, from people around and around, from video surveillance, from footage from tab -camera, from any information about it, especially anyone who saw three people hanging around the area – maybe two on a bicycle or motorcycle, who left the area shortly after the firearm was fired. “
He added: “The bike went from Mill Lane to Edge Lane, but obviously there are an awful lot of possibilities there, so we have a pretty wide range of CCTV we’re looking at, so anyone who’s seen a motorcycle, an electric bike, with a few people around 12.15 in the morning, we need to hear from them. “
Police believe the address (not the victim’s) was targeted. They called on anyone with a CCTV footage, control camera or bell or information about the incident to send a DM to the social media counter on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook’s Merseyside Police Contact Center with link 22000283903.
