Eric ten Haag has to start pre-season training with Donnie van de Beek in the Manchester United squad after hiring the Dutch midfielder in Everton.
Van de Beck’s future at Old Trafford has been uncertain since arriving from Ajax and failing to break into the first team, but the arrival of his former manager Johan Cruyff Arena has given him a lifeline.
Ajax Ten Hag have qualified for the 2019 Champions League semi-finals, with Van de Beek playing a key role in the midfield and now at least he will have a chance to fight for a return to United.
However, Ten Hague will be left without one of the most important men in this European tournament, completed by Tottenham Hotspur. His assistant Alfred Schroeder was praised by the players for his work behind the scenes, but he himself became No. 1 at Club Brugge, putting him in the frame to replace Ten Haag at Ajax.
Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are planning talks with Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba has not yet received official offers of contracts from the clubs to join them next season as a free agent when he leaves Manchester United.
The 29-year-old French midfielder is expected to leave United in the summer when his contract expires. He could talk to other clubs about a preliminary contract from January, but he wanted to focus on the season before deciding his future.
He has to talk to the clubs when the campaign is over, with Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona planning preliminary discussions. But the World Cup winner will probably hear all the offers before making a final decision.
Fraser Forster is ready to leave Southampton
Fraser Forster seems increasingly likely to leave Southampton on a free transfer, although his form has won a recall in England this season.
Forster, 34, starts every Premier League match on Boxing Day, and his performances have earned him a place on Gareth Southgate’s squad for the March Friendlies, which has put him in contention for a World Cup spot. But his contract with St Mary’s expires in two months and the club hires Alex McCarthy.
McCarthy has been removed since December, but published documents from the Football Association confirm that documentation for an “updated contract” has been submitted, which is understood as a long-term deal.
As McCarthy is ready to return to the first team, Southampton is in the market for the younger number 2, according to a source from the club. They also signed Willie Caballero for a short-term contract when McCarthy was injured and the Argentine’s contract expires this summer.
Forster will be among two England goalkeepers available for free transfers this summer, with Sam Johnstone also leaving West Bromwich Albion after retaining his place on the Southgate team while in the Championship.
