Angela Raynor joked with other lawmakers that she could repel the prime minister by blinking her legs, according to two people who witnessed the conversation in parliament.
Two Conservative MPs told the Telegraph about what happened when it was alleged that the deputy Labor leader had made remarks on the terrace of the House of Commons.
Witnesses said they heard Ms Raynor joke that she had crossed her legs on the front bench.
A Conservative MP said Ms Raynor was “laughing” at the insinuation that “she can repel Boris by giving him lightning”. A second MEP also said that Mrs Rayner was joking about it.
The conversation is said to have taken place about two months ago on part of the parliament terrace overlooking the River Thames behind Strangers’ Bar, where lawmakers are drinking and socializing.
There were allegations that Ms. Rayner smoked during the conversation, which was said to be carefree and ingenious. No MP said there was an explicit reference to the 1992 erotic thriller. Basic instinct.
“Humiliating and deeply hurtful”
A Labor spokesman declined to comment, but quoted Ms. Angela Raynor’s comments on Twitter.
She said Wednesday: “As women, we sometimes try to erase the sexism we face, but it doesn’t do us any good.
