Jose Mourinho refused to be attracted by Manchester United’s decision to appoint Eric ten Haag as a new manager, admitting that he had no advice to propose to the Dutchman.
Ten Hague, after months of speculation, was officially named United’s new boss last week. The Dutchman will take over before the start of next season, after signing a contract until the summer of 2025, with an option for an additional year.
The Ajax boss will be tasked with watching the expected summer of cataclysms and transformations after his arrival at Old Trafford, as the club tries to leave behind an unforgettable 2021-22 campaign. Major changes need to be made in the overall structure and philosophy of the club, as well as in the composition of the first team.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, United have not been able to get close to the peaks they reached during his tenure, which means that Ten Haag will hope to succeed where others have failed. Mourinho, of course, has led United since Ferguson’s retirement, taking the hot seat between 2016 and 2018.
After running the club for more than two years and winning three trophies during that time, the Portuguese boss, who is now in charge of Roma, may have been ready to offer some advice to Ten Hague on what lies ahead. However, he refused to say too much about United’s decision to appoint the Ajax boss.
“You touched on the subject, my former club,” Mourinho said at a pre-match press conference before Roma’s clash with Leicester City in the Europa League on Thursday night. “It’s not my club.” I have no advice.
Giving a typical, unsurprising answer to Mourinho, the former United boss, answering the journalist who had asked the question, waved his finger, hinting that he had no interest in talking about his old club. He was sacked by United in December 2018 after losing to Liverpool at Anfield.
