Vladimir Putin could dig in as “cancer growth” in Ukraine, warns Ben Wallace

Canadian lawmakers on Wednesday unanimously adopted a proposal to recognize Russia’s “acts of genocide against the Ukrainian people” and to recognize evidence of “systematic and massive war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

“Today, every member of the House of Commons supported my proposal to recognize that the Russian Federation is committing genocide against the Ukrainian people,” tweeted Heather McPherson of the left-wing New Democratic Party, which submitted the proposal.

The proposal states that the crimes were committed “by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, led by President Vladimir Putin and others in the Russian parliament.”

“Mass atrocities” include “systematic cases of premeditated murder of Ukrainian civilians and desecration of corpses”, torture, rape and “forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russian territory”.

Accepting the proposal, the House of Commons acknowledged “that the Russian Federation is committing acts of genocide against the Ukrainian people,” according to the document.

The move comes about 10 days after the Ukrainian parliament passed a similar resolution.
