Driver charged after driving unevenly, hit police cruiser near Solon: OPP

The 29-year-old faces multiple charges following an incident earlier this week, Sault Ste. Marie OPP said in a press release issued today.

Police say they responded to a call for help from the East Algoma OPP around 2pm yesterday after a driver was spotted leaving Thessaloniki to drive unevenly at excessive speed.

At around 3:09 p.m., police said they noticed the car moving chaotically and crashing into the end of the road. The driver then crashed into the parked police car before leaving.

With the help of the Batchewana First Nation Police Service, the damaged pickup was stopped and as a result, Alexander Siotti-Carpentier of Sault Ste. Marie has been arrested and faces multiple charges (listed below).

MACDONALD-MEREDIT-ABERDIN SUPPLEMENTARY CITY – On April 27, 2022, shortly after 2:00 p.m., members of the Sault Ste Marie Squadron of the Ontario Police Department (OPP) and the Northeast Region (Sault Ste Marie) received an emergency call from East Algoma OPP reports that a pickup truck has left the city of Solon, driving unevenly, at excessive speed and heading west on motorway 17.

At approximately 15:09, the OPP noticed the suspect driving chaotically and hitting his shoulder. The pickup truck made a left turn at the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 638, where an OPP vehicle was parked. The pickup collided with the cruiser and continued on Highway 638 to Echo Bay. With the help of the First National Police Service Batchewana, the damaged pickup truck was stopped on Church Street.

When the driver was detained, the officers found out that alcohol had been used. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Sault Ste Marie squad. Police found open alcohol, drug paraphernalia, a loaded cut gun and parts of the weapon in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Alexander Siotti-Carpentier, 29, of Sault Ste Marie, was charged with:

  • Careless storage of firearms, weapons, prohibited devices or ammunition contrary to Article 86 (1) of the Penal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose, contrary to Article 88 of the Penal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited or restricted firearms, contrary to Article 91 (1) of the Penal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon, contrary to Article 91 (2) of the Penal Code
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to Article 92 (1) of the Penal Code
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon, contrary to Article 92 (2) of the Penal Code
  • Employee in a motor vehicle, knowing that he has a prohibited or restricted weapon, contrary to section 94 of the Penal Code
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearms, contrary to section 95 (a) of the Penal Code
  • Possession of a firearm with serial numbers is falsified, contrary to section 108 (1) (b) of the Penal Code
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13 (1) of CC (two points)
  • Injury operation – Alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14 (1) (a) of the Penal Code
  • Injury surgery – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14 (1) (b) of CC
  • Flight by a peace officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the Penal Code

The accused appeared before the Court of Ontario in Salt Saint-Marie on April 28, 2022 and was detained.
