Ozark’s fourth season ends with a shocking twist

Ozark spoilers follow.

Ozark’s fourth season ended in thunder (and a lot of splashes of blood) when pseudo-cartel boss Xavi Elizondro (Alfonso Herrera) blew up the brains of newlyweds Darlene, born Snell (Lisa Emery) and Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan).

It was the blow to the teeth that ignited Ruth’s grief-stricken rage and triggered some explosive events from which even Byrd could not escape at the time.

Enough love game! Let’s get into what really happened in the finale of the fourth season of Ozark.

Explanation of the end of the fourth season of Ozark

Netflix

The second part begins with the unstable Ruth (Julia Garner), who pursues Wyatt’s killer. It wasn’t long before her rage ended with Xavier being shot to death in front of Byrdes and Shaw’s medical chief Claire Shaw (Katrina Lenk).

To protect themselves and Ruth Birds, they cover up their act by telling Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) that his nephew has disappeared and is presumed dead. Which brings Navarro back in the first place to confirm his extradition deal with the FBI, but he must first regain control of his drug cartel.

He does this by getting Marty to personally convey the news that he has killed Xavi, and sends him temporarily to act as his emissary in Mexico.

The news is not going well and someone is trying on Navarro’s life – that someone is his sister Camilla (Xavi’s mother, played by Veronica Falcon).

Netflix

Clare Shaw, meanwhile, feels a little cold to Bird after helping wipe Xavi’s blood off the floor of her office. She makes a deal with Ruth Langmore to drive Bird out, using Darlene’s inherited drugs to provide Shaw with medical care.

This is appropriate for Ruth, because in addition to fucking the Birds with their agreement, she intends to use her new profits to buy the majority shares of The Missouri Belle Casino from them.

Netflix

Naturally, they refuse, as this is their main money laundering business for the cartel. However, Ruth is Langmore and Langmores are not giving up, obviously.

Thanks to Langmore-Snell’s weddings, Ruth inherited Darlene’s estate as well as her shares in Belle. She bought the remaining shares from Charles Wilkes and received the deletion of her criminal record, making her the proud majority owner of Belle and the first pure Langmore in five generations.

If only there was a gold plate for it. Oh, hell, she can buy it.

Wendy Byrd (Laura Linney) – who also has a backbone – finds a way to get Claire back into a five-year drug deal with the cartel and a $ 150 million donation to the Byrde Foundation, as well as shares for Camilla at the Medical Show.

However, the loss of Belle is still a pressing problem for the Bird family, as they need it to launder Navarro’s money, which has also been increasing its extradition plans for months.

This is forbidden for Ruth, who insists on running a legitimate business. So what do Birds do? Formulate another plan on their base of float sand from half-built plans.

Following the attack on Navarre, the FBI said that if he died, Marty (Jason Bateman) would be happy to run the cartel to continue their drug seizures.

Netflix

Of course, this will not work for the Bird family, but it gives the mobile Wendy an idea: to kill Navarro and replace him with his sister. Camilla agrees that she is still in pain for her son.

Despite Wendy’s obvious black soul, her distorted, furious love for her children means it’s all insignificant unless she brings them back.

Where can you wonder? In the midst of this life and death chaos, her own father – after learning that she ordered the attack on her brother Ben (Tom Pelfrey), forces Charlotte (Sophia Hublitz) and John (Skyler Gartner) to move away with him.

The news provoked the already tense Wendy to get involved and she refused to leave the institution until Marty made them return.

Marty – now with his hands full – delegates the task to Ruth, threatening to tell Camilla the truth about his death. She agrees and makes John and Charlotte see the truth about their mean, drunken grandfather, whose real intention is to hurt Wendy’s heart and upset him.

Netflix

Charlotte and Jonah deal with Wendy, who admits that she tried to control them. She explains (in these very important words):

“Your father and I were trying to build something for all of us, and I promise I won’t trap you.

Feeling emotional, well, no matter how emotional the Birds are, they move on and agree to reunite as a family.

This touching heartbeat is followed by the scene of a car accident. Remember flash forward at the beginning of the season. Cook himself played on the stereo then bam! The Byrdes family flies.

It turns out that it was really just a symbol of the unpredictability of life, because they all escaped unscathed and ready to dance the night away at the Belle-Byrde Foundation event later that evening.

Everything seems to be going incredibly well. The Byrdes are about to get out of the drug business after handing over the Missouri Bell laundry to Ruth and Rachel (Jordana Spiro) – yes, she’s back. From a legal standpoint, of course – Ruth’s squeaky file could not be tarnished – as the FBI gave her the green light under the guise of a cooperating witness.

However, this would not be Ozark if there were not a few more twists.

Netflix

At the fundraising foundation, Camilla speculates that the Byrd and Clare families know more about her son’s death than they believe. Especially after realizing that her brother is not responsible (she still continues to kill him and take away his business, which is somehow bad behavior of brother and sister).

The Byrdes remain cool and tight, but there is little mention of wrongful death, and Claire says Ruth is the one responsible.

Camilla instructs her supporter to kill the Bird children if Ruth is warned of what lies ahead. Despite their apparent grief — even Wendy was beside herself — they remained calm and continued until the fearsome Ruth Langmore was shot by Camilla on the side of the road.

A bitter end to their dysfunctional pseudo-family relationship. This note sounds strong during Ozark’s last act, but in the real way Ozark has one last vein for Byrdes.

Netflix

Remember Mel Satem (Adam Rothenberg), the disgraced PI cop who tried to prove that the Birds killed Ben?

Wendy and Marty pulled the strings to get his job back as a cop in exchange for rejecting Ben’s case. At first he agreed, but his moral compass apparently continued to rise north.

He returns to Missouri and encounters Bird with evidence that Ben is dead, not missing (that damn jar of cookies full of ashes!).

The Bird family relied on their safe tactics of bribery, but this time it could not be bought.

Their delicate house of cards is about to collapse when Jonah pulls out a gun and shoots Mel.

Yes, formally little Jonah Byrd, who hates this life (except when he kept Ruth’s books on money laundering), brings Mel out, sealing his own destiny.

Just as Wendy finally releases him, offering him and Charlotte freedom, his murderous act traps him in the life she wanted to save him from.

Marty and Wendy Bird may have achieved the freedom they sought, but this act is a reminder that their bad deeds have affected and continue to affect what they value most: their children.

We think they call it poetic justice.

Ozark is now available on Netflix.
