PHOENIX – Former Maricopa County Attorney Alistair Adele has died, according to the family.
A spokesman said Alistair Adele DeNito had died Saturday morning due to health complications.
She was 45 years old.
She stayed with her husband and two children.
“This May we were going to celebrate 20 years of marriage. My family and I are utterly devastated by this unimaginable loss. We are so proud to call Alistair a wife and mother, “said her husband, David DeNito. “We ask the press and the public to honor her, her legacy and our family, respecting our privacy at this difficult time.”
Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
Various Arizona government officials have reacted to the news of Adele’s death on Twitter, including Senator Kirsten Cinema, Gov. Doug Ducey, Sheriff Paul Penzon, former Gov. Ian Brewer, District Attorney candidate Rachel Mitchell and President Bill Gates.

Adele was appointed prosecutor of Maricopa County in 2019 and held the post until March 2022.
Adele’s resignation took effect last month following a growing list of scandals and failures dating back to her election in November 2020.
Last year, she spent time in a rehab center for alcohol and mental health problems.
In 2020, she was admitted to hospital after a fall. After falling, Adele underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from a brain hemorrhage.
