A prolific thief who stole from an elderly and fragile woman poured boiling water on him in prison while he waited to be convicted of his latest crime.
According to reports, Dean Kenyon is now “in constant and excruciating pain” after the horrific attack. The attack took place while he was on remand for robbery on January 12, in which his 79-year-old victim received lifelong injuries.
The 35-year-old man grabbed the woman’s handbag, causing her to fall back and break her thigh, the court heard.
While in prison, he poured boiling water on his legs and arms, which led to five skin graft surgeries, according to Teesside Live.

In October 2020, he invaded a woman with arthritis in a shop window before grabbing her bag while she was walking on Boussfield Lane in Stockton. He approached her from behind and pushed her into the barber shop window before grabbing her purse,
Her bank cards were later restored by Kenyon, but valuable photos of her parents were never found. The woman was traumatized by the attack and too scared to leave her home.
He was living at Hartington Road in Stockton at the time and had 13 previous convictions, mostly for acquisition crimes. He was in prison for three years and four weeks.
On Friday, Kenyon of Parkside Crescent, Siam, appeared in Durham court through a HMP Durham liaison to be convicted of robbery. He pleaded guilty to the charges at a previous hearing.
Chris Morrison, defending himself, said: “The level of remorse on this issue is obvious. When the sober realization of what he had done to this vulnerable lady overwhelmed him, he was humiliated and is humiliated to this day.
He said Kenyon committed the robbery to “get money for drugs” and said he was the victim of an attack while in custody. He said: “His hands and feet were drenched in boiling water, which resulted in grafts on the skin of his hands and feet.
“He has had five skin graft surgeries and his mobility will be affected. He is currently severely anesthetized and in constant pain. “
Convicting Kenyon, Judge James Adkin, the Durham record holder, sentenced him to six years in prison with a three-year extended license.
