There is currently a large fire creating an alarming amount of smoke over the Heburn area of South Tyneside.
Fire crews confirmed that they arrived at the scene of the incident on Argyle Street at 10.50 on Sunday morning. Currently, five engines as well as 26 firefighters are still battling the blaze.
Firefighters also used a square ladder to reach the fire and try to put out the flames.
The burning property is an abandoned former factory. Dark gray smoke can be seen throughout the city all the way to Heaton, Walker and Jarrow. The Fire and Rescue Fire and Rescue Service called on locals to keep windows and doors closed.
Our reporter and photographer are now heading to the area.
We will present you the latest on stage.
