A truck driver was killed in a car crash near the Gule River

A 21-year-old died after a vehicle crash in the Gule River earlier this week.

In a news release last night, Sault Ste. Marie OPP said they responded to the crash around 8:47 a.m. yesterday morning after the driver lost control of his vehicle and veered into a ditch.

As a result, Walker Gregoire of the Gule River died of his injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot.

GOULAIS RIVER – On April 30, 2022, around 8:47 a.m., members of the Sault Ste Marie Squadron of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the TPE Northeast Region Traffic Accident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) and the technical team The Clashes Investigation Team (TCI) with the help of the Goulais Fire and Rescue Service and the Sault Ste Marie paramedics responded to a fatal collision on Highway 552 near Mission Road in the Goulais River.

The investigation found that the pickup truck was traveling west on Highway 552, when it failed to overcome a bend in the road, traveling down a deep ditch where it stopped. Driver Walker Gregoire, a 21-year-old from the Gule River, has died from his injuries and has been pronounced dead on the spot.

The post-mortem examination will take place at a later date at Sault Ste Marie at the Center for Forensic Science.

The highway was open in one lane for about five hours and at 3:36 p.m. it was reopened for traffic in both directions.
