Bill Murray discussed the accusation against him for “inappropriate behavior” on the set of “Being Mortal” for the first time on Saturday.
Speaking to CNBC at the annual meeting of shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway in 2022, the actor spoke at length about the situation that stopped the production of the film amid an investigation into the incident.
“I had a different opinion of the woman I was working with,” Murray said. “I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t perceived that way.”
He continued: “The company, the film studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check everything, investigate it, and so they stopped production.
Murray did not specify what exactly caused the allegation of “misconduct”, nor did she reveal which colleague filed the complaint.
“But for now, we are talking and trying to make peace with each other. “I think that’s the real problem between our peace,” Murray said. “We are both professionals. We like each other’s work. We like each other, I think, and if you can’t really understand and trust each other, there’s no point in continuing to work together or make a film. “
Murray added that he was “very optimistic” that he and the woman would “make peace”, which would allow them to resume their collaboration on the film, directed by Aziz Ansari.
“It was a great education for me,” said the remorseful Murray. “And I have a feeling that if I don’t see that, you know the world is different than it was when I was little. What I always thought was funny as a child is not necessarily the same as what is funny now. Things are changing and times are changing, so it’s important for me to understand that. And I think the most important thing is that it’s best for the other person. I thought about it, and if it’s not best for the other person, it doesn’t matter what happens to me.
Earlier, Lucy Liu accused Murray of “unforgivable and unacceptable” behavior on the set of “Charlie’s Angels” in 2000, claiming that Murray “insulted” her, as she revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. 2021 In an interview on Saturday, Murray said he was thinking about what happened recently as a catalyst for change.
“I really think this is a really sad puppy who can’t learn anymore,” Murray said. “I do not want to be this sad dog and I have no intention of doing so. What would make me happiest would be to put on my boots and both of us to go back to work and be able to trust each other and work in the job we both spent a lot of time developing, developing our skills , and hope to do something that is good not only for the two of us, but for a whole team of people, a whole team of directors. and the film studio, too. ”
He added: “I feel like I’ve learned more in the last year or two than I may have learned in a decade of my life.”
Shortly after Being Mortal went into production on March 28, the film – starring Murray, Ansari, Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer – informed its team that work would be halted amid an unspecified complaint of “inappropriate behavior”.
“At the end of last week, we were notified of the complaint and immediately reviewed it,” Searchlight Pictures wrote in an email to the production team. “After reviewing the circumstances, it was decided that the proceedings could not continue at this time.”
