A man died after being hit by a police car in East Sussex.
An unnamed 27-year-old man was hit by a marked police car in Peacehaven, East Sussex.
According to police, he died on the spot despite the efforts of paramedics and emergency services.
The collision took place near the intersection of Dorothy Avenue shortly after 11.10 pm on Saturday night.
Sussex police say they have referred the incident to the Independent Police Conduct Service (IOPC), which will conduct an independent investigation.
“This is a tragic incident and we fully support the IOPC investigation,” said Chief Superintendent Joe Banks.
Police are asking anyone who has information or recordings from the camera about the incident to contact them.
According to statistics published by the IOPC, there were 471 deaths as a result of traffic accidents involving police between 2004 and 2020, 18 of which involved Sussex police.
People between the ages of 21 and 30 were more likely to be killed than any other age group.
The majority of deaths are related to persecution. Sussex police did not say whether the man was being chased or the police car was responding to an emergency at the moment.
