An Alabama woman was arrested Friday after a pack of dogs attacked and killed a state official investigating an attack on a dog earlier in the week, authorities said.

The fatal attack came when Jacqueline Summer Byrd, an employee of the Alabama Department of Public Health, went to track down the alleged incident involving dogs owned by Brandi Daudi, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said. Daudi’s dogs are said to have attacked a woman earlier last week.

When lawmakers arrived at Crampton Road, the sheriff’s office said it had witnessed several dogs begin to attack residents, with one resident suffering minor injuries.

“Some of the dogs had to be euthanized immediately,” the sheriff’s office said.
