A man was stabbed to death in Dave & Busters in Times Square

Alan Stanford, 39, of Harlem, has been identified as a victim by the New York Police Department (NYPD).

The incident happened around 10:44 pm when police officers responded to an “attack call” at 234 West 42 Street, where Dave & Busters is located, the NYPD said in a statement.

Law enforcement officers arrived and found Stanford with a stab wound to the chest. He was transported to St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Jesse Armstrong, 41, was arrested and charged with murder on Sunday, New York police said. It is unclear whether Armstrong has legal representation.

The stabbing comes in the midst of a jump in crime, with the city registering a 42.7% increase in serious crime compared to the same period in 2021, according to NYPD statistics on April 24.

The figures include a 46.7% increase in robberies, a 54% increase in major thefts and a 14.9% increase in rape reports. The homicide rate has fallen by 13.1% from last year, but has still risen by 9.2% in the last two years.

New York City police plan to increase the number of night patrols in anticipation of increased crime in the city as temperatures rise, New York City police told CNN on Sunday.

There are also plans to add “violence reduction coordinators” in each of the city’s neighborhoods, the department said.
