A man is dead after driving at the Cranberry Bar in Carver – NBC Boston

A 35-year-old man died Saturday night after crashing into a cranberry swamp in Carver, Massachusetts.

The Plymouth County Attorney’s Office identified the victim as Brendan McGafigan, a Carver resident.

Carver police responded to two calls to 911, which reported that a vehicle had entered the water in a cranberry swamp behind 7 Holmes Street.

The first responders found the GMC Sierra on its roof in the lake, with the driver still in the sunken vehicle.

Officers and the police chief immediately entered the water and began work to remove the driver from his truck. They were assisted by several other people at the scene, as well as additional public safety personnel, who finally managed to get into the sunken car and pull out the only passenger.

Carver EMS carried out life-saving measures and the man was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth, but did not survive, “despite Hercules’ life-saving efforts of all involved,” police said.

A member of the victim’s family, who also tried to help with the rescue, was also taken to hospital, police said.

Carver Police acknowledged the rescue efforts, saying: “While the results were not what everyone hoped for, we must acknowledge the extraordinary efforts made by our public safety staff and local citizens, who did their utmost to give the victim the best chance of survival. “

According to a preliminary investigation, it appears that McGaffigan came out of the dirt road down an embankment in a pond and the motor vehicle landed upside down in the water, catching him in the truck.

The area where Sierra left the road looked wet and muddy and narrow in certain parts, the prosecutor’s office said.

Police said that although this seemed like a very tragic incident, it was being investigated by both Carver and the state police.
