Officers responded to a signal of a crash on West Peachtree Street and 14th Street in the evening and found a party bicycle that overturned when turning, according to Atlanta police.
Party bikes, sometimes called pedal pubs or pedal bars, are mini bars on wheels that roam the cities. They are partly electric, driven by a driver in front and partly powered by passengers who pedal while drinking in the “bar”.
Preliminary investigation found that there were 15 people on the bike. All 15 were injured and taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Two of the passengers were critically injured and three others were in critical condition, Atlanta Fire Chief Jason McClain told CNN’s WXIA affiliate.
The driver of the motorcycle, who has not been identified, has been charged with drunk driving and has also been charged with violating a business license, police said.
