The pocket-sized Pixy drone soars into the sky

Snap introduced its first camera drone – Pixy.

A promotional video (below) shows a group of friends sending Pixie to the sky to take pictures of the trio while joking in the countryside.

Starting a flight with Pixy involves choosing one of several flight modes: rotation, orbit, discovery, preference and tracking. Follow, for example, prompts the standalone device to track your movement, keeping you in the frame at all times while taking photos and shooting video from the air.

Content, whether video or images, is then automatically stored wirelessly in Snapchat Memories.

From there, you can deploy Snapchat editing tools, lenses and sounds to customize your content, including the application of fast smart edits such as Hyperspeed, Bounce, Orbit 3D and Jump Cut.

Once you’re done, you can quickly share your video or photo via Snapchat or another platform.

Snap describes its new Pixy drone as “a pocket-sized free-flying helper suitable for large and small adventures.”

The small flying machines tip the scales at only 100 grams (0.22 pounds) and begin and end their flights in the palm of your hand. Protective guards around the propellers ensure that your fingers do not break when landing, saving you from the horrible show that happened to Enrique Iglesias a few years ago.

Pixy is available for purchase now in the US and France for $ 230, although you will have to be extremely patient, as delivery time is currently shown at 16 weeks. Accessories include extra batteries, a dual charger and a carrying strap that includes a bumper.

This is the second physical product launched by Snap, following in the footsteps of Snapchat-equipped Spectacles, launched by the company in 2016. The device, which can capture video and images and also offers augmented reality features, is now in its third iteration.
