Sen. Joe Manchin, DW.Va., appeared in a Republican primary ad defending MP David McKinley, RW.Va., from accusations that he supported President Biden’s Build Back Better program.
“I’ve always said that if I can’t go home and explain it, I can’t vote for it, so I opposed Build Back Better,” Manchin said in a 30-second spot this weekend.
Manchin continued to defend McKinley against a lawsuit by his Republican opponent, Alex Mooney, who accused McKinley of effectively supporting Build Back Better by voting on the $ 1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.
SEN JO MANCHIN SAYS IT IS OPEN FOR A NEW VERSION OF BIDEN BUILDING A BETTER AGENDA
“For Alex Mooney and his supporters outside the state to assume that David McKinley supports Build Back Better is a blatant lie,” the Democrat said. “David McKinley has always opposed reckless spending because it doesn’t make sense to West Virginia.

“Alex Mooney has proven to be all about Alex Mooney,” Manchin concluded. “But the people of West Virginia know that David McKinley is everything to us.”
Both Mooney and McKinley are currently in the House of Representatives, but new congressional cards place McKinley, West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, in the state’s 2nd Congressional District. They both announced their competitions to represent the same county in October 2021.
Mooney accused McKinley of helping lubricate the Build Back Better sliders in November 2021. He noted that Biden’s non-infrastructure package would not have passed the House without the 13 Republicans who voted for him. (Many critics say traditional infrastructure accounts for a small percentage of the bill.)

Although Mooney did not name McKinley in his video, he said Republicans who voted in favor of the infrastructure package “now paved the way for Democrats to push through President Biden’s socialist plan Build Back Better”.
2022 IS BEING VIEWED TO BE ANOTHER BANNER YEAR FOR REPUBLICAN WOMEN, the candidates claim
However, McKinley did not vote on the Build Back Better bill, which Manchin effectively blocked late last year.
Former President Trump backed Mooney in the race, as did representatives Lauren Boubert, R-Colo., And Ronnie Jackson, R-Texas, along with the Growth Club, FreedomWorks and the American Conservative Union.

However, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo backed McKinley, along with Manchin, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, Andrew Young and the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
Senator Shelley Moore-Capito, RW.Va., declined to support the candidate.

CNN Congressman Manu Raju tweeted that analysts consider Mooney a possible rival to Manchin in the 2024 Senate race.

Last month, Manchin suggested that he would be willing to support another version of Build Back Better if it was closely aligned with the fight against climate change, lowering the price of prescription drugs and reducing the deficit.
