The outbreak was announced after three patients tested positive for the virus, hospital officials said in a press release Monday.
The ward is closed for admission until further notice and access to caregivers is restricted, except for palliative patients. Care teams will inform caregivers of virtual connection opportunities, officials said.
Huron Perth’s public health reported 15 active COVID-19 outbreaks in the region on Monday, including eight in the long-term care area and retirement homes.
A separate outbreak at St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital continued Monday. The outbreak in the hospital ward has affected 16 patients and six staff members since it was announced on April 18, according to data updated on Monday.
“The transmission of COVID-19 in the community is high and this puts pressure on many risky places, including hospitals (health unions), not only because of staff absences, but also because of the extra care needed for COVID-positive patients,” officials said. at the hospital. “Help us alleviate this pressure by layering personal precautions, such as keeping up with your COVID-19 vaccinations, staying home if you’re sick and wearing a mask indoors.”
