The province is unveiling mock-ups for a new mental health and addiction facility

The provincial government is giving its first look at some of the rooms and amenities that will be in the new mental health and addiction facility.

Model rooms have been built to enable government services, clinical staff and other stakeholders to give feedback to them while construction is underway.

The model area offers a view of several different areas of the new hospital.

The nursing station is designed with patient interaction in mind, including an accessible height counter for wheelchair users.

There is a standard patient bedroom, which includes a desk and a private toilet. Part of the corridor outside the toilet includes a clinical hand sink.

A therapeutic quiet room has also been built. The room is a protected area that is used for patients who require constant supervision. There is a bedroom and a toilet, as well as an area with windows overlooking the staff room so that the patient can be observed.

Clinical Project Manager Christa Wade says they have received a lot of feedback, leading to about 17 pages of recommendations.

She says the overall process has been “fantastic” and people are asking when people can start applying.
