Delta police say the killing of a correctional officer in a Walmart parking lot in the North Delta last year was a misrepresentation.

Delta police say the killing of a correctional officer in a Walmart parking lot in the North Delta last year was a misrepresentation.

On May 1, 2021, Bikramdip Randhava was shot and killed.

The Delta Serious Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, and over the past year has conducted extensive interviews and more than 300 follow-up tasks, trying to identify and bring charges against those responsible.

The DPD said in a May 3 press release that as a result of the evidence provided so far, investigators are convinced that Randhava’s murder was the result of a mistaken identity. “Investigators believe Randhava’s killers mistaken him for a person involved in the ongoing gang conflict in the Lower Continent,” DPD said in a press release. “Investigators are confident they have identified the suspects involved in the murder.

Police say the investigation is active and DPD is working with other partner agencies to bring those responsible for the killing.

“The tragedy of seeing an innocent man caught in the senseless violence of the ongoing life-threatening gang conflict is not lost on the investigation team or the Delta police as a whole,” added Deputy Chief Harj Sidhu.

Delta Police would like to publicly extend to the Randhava family and the BC Correctional Services that this investigation remains a priority.

DPD says their investigators know there are people with specific and valuable knowledge about the killing, and are asking them or someone else to contact Delta Police with information at 604-946-4411 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
