Indian students from Punjab and Tamil Nadu won the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge
Washington:
Two Indian student groups from Punjab and Tamil Nadu have won the NASA 2022 Human Exploration Rover Challenge, according to a press release.
Announced by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA during a virtual award ceremony on April 29, the challenge involved as many as 91 teams, including 58 colleges and 33 high schools.
The challenge prompted American and international student teams to design, design, and test a human-powered rover on a course simulating terrain found on rocky bodies in the solar system.
The teams also performed mission tasks, including sampling and spectrographic analysis, while negotiating the course.
“This year, students were asked to develop a course that mimicked obstacles like racing in Huntsville,” Aundra Brooks-Davenport, head of the Marshall Space Flight Challenge Center in Huntsville, Alabama, said Tuesday.
“Ensuring the safety of the team was a key factor in designing their own obstacles. We are excited about the virtual competition and the opportunity it has given our teams, ”said Brooks-Davenport.
The Punjab Presidency School for Worthy Children won the STEM High School Engagement Award. The team from the Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu was announced the winner in the college / university section of the social media award, the statement said.
