Delta police say they are convinced that the murder of a correctional officer a year ago outside the service was a case of a mistaken identity related to the gang’s conflict in the Vancouver Metro.

Bikramdip Randhava was shot and killed near a Walmart car park in the Northern Delta on May 1, 2021.

“Investigators believe Mr Randhava’s killers mistaken him for a man involved in the gang’s ongoing conflict in the Lower Continent,” Deputy Chief Harj Sidhu said in a press release on Tuesday.

Sidhu said investigators “are confident they have identified the suspects involved in the killing.”

He said the investigation remains a high priority.

“For the investigative team or the Delta police as a whole, the tragedy of seeing an innocent man caught in the senseless violence of an ongoing gang conflict that costs his life is not lost,” Sidhu said.

Randhawa was a popular correctional officer who worked for several years at the Fraser Regional Correctional Center and also attended university courses, a former colleague said last May.

Police know there are people with important information about Randhava’s murder and are asking them or anyone who has information to report it. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
