Sonos Voice is reported to be the voice assistant you’ve never wanted

If you find that you are watching Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri (Bixby?) And decide you need another voice assistant, good news! Sonos, known for its connected audio systems, comes to the rescue you didn’t know you needed. Or so says a new report from The Verge, as Sonos is preparing to send Sonos Voice on June 1 this year. Initially, the launch will be limited to the United States and will appear as part of a software update, while all Sonos S2-enabled speakers must receive it.

Sonos already supports both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant on its speakers, but this is clearly not enough. Sonos Voice will obviously make a game for the privacy of its users. Offer the convenience of voice commands without transmitting this data to the cloud. These are well-founded fears for the two dominant forces in space, no one will deny this, and Sonos thinks it is worthwhile to go our own way.

Initially, it was set to be a fairly simple experience and not even all major music services would be included. Support is reported to exclude Spotify and YouTube Music, although Apple Music, Amazon, Pandora and Deezer must be with Sonos Radio. Not much is reported about this smart home in this early incarnation of Sonos Voice, but this is not entirely unexpected. Voice commands should be focused on playing music and operating the device in the early days.

Smart Home enthusiasts may be able to launch at least one of the other voice assistants along with Sonos Voice. Earlier reports on the voice assistant showed signs that Alexa and Sonos Voice may work side by side, but not Google Assistant. There are stories that Google is more restrictive than Amazon in how it allows the use of Google Assistant, which would support these earlier leaks. Google and Sonos have hardly been best friends lately.

It’s also a smart game if Sonos owners can spin Sonos Voice without sacrificing what they’re used to. Especially if in the beginning it is extremely simple. Is there really a future for platform-specific voice assistant? Only time will tell, but it will be fun to follow Sonos Voice, assuming it launches, as reported next month. Interestingly, Sonos’ most recent speaker, Ray, will not be able to use this new feature, as it is reported that there are no microphones. Oh, good.
