WBA welterweight champion Dmitry Bivol reacted to the latest comments from Vitaly and Vladimir Klitschko.
The two former heavyweight champions strongly protested against the scenario of Bivol getting an extremely lucrative opportunity against Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canello’ Alvarez.
Buffalo will defend its title against Canello on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Klitschko brothers have taken up arms to defend their homeland Ukraine against Russia’s ongoing invasion.
They believe that Russian boxers like Buffalo should be prevented from fighting until the invasion stops.
Buffalo, who has friends living in Ukraine, openly voiced opposition to the war.
But his words are not enough for the Klitschko brothers.
“[Bivol should] absolutely not [be facing Canelo]. “Any sanction is nothing against the person or the athletes, it’s about Russia’s policy,” Wladimir Klitschko told BBC Radio.
“Every Russian representative in this case must be sanctioned, because in this way we are showing Russia that the world is against this senseless war and that there is no good in this war.
Buffalo calls on the Klitschko brothers to stay away from mixing politics with sports.
“I have supported him throughout his career, I like how he fights and of course I was happy when he won. [a] athlete, he must know that sport and politics are different. He was [an] athlete. Now he is a politician. “It’s sad that he wants to shake him up and mix sports and politics,” Bivol told IFL TV.
The WBA, which removed Russian boxers from its rankings, also prevents Russian boxers from entering the ring with their national flag or playing the Russian national anthem before sanctioned matches.
