Five local performers are returning to the East Coast Music Awards

The first group of winners for the East Coast Music Awards for 2022 has been announced.

Newfoundland and Labrador come with five awards – the most from each province.

Quote the Raven received the Contemporary / Roots record of the year for “Can’t Hold the Light”, while Kelly McMichael won the rock record of the year for “Waves”.

Rube & Rake were named Songwriter of the Year, while Mallory Johnson and Twin Kennedy and Justin Fancy won the Fan of the Year Awards for Video of the Year and Entertainer of the Year, respectively.

The CEO of Music NL says it was great to have the awards live again.

Rhonda Tulk Lane says it was a night of pure joy, love and excitement for live music, with people who have never met in person finally seeing each other. She calls it a great night for Newfoundland and Labrador.

The remaining prizes will be handed out on Sunday night. VOCM and its sister station New Country NL have been nominated for Media of the Year, while VOCM program director and host of the Irish show in Newfoundland, Greg Smith, has been nominated for Media of the Year.
