Environment Canada warns Manitoba residents of the risks of severe thunderstorms that could lead to tornadoes in parts of the province.
The Meteorological Agency issued a signal of a strong thunderstorm on Saturday for a number of areas, including Brandon, Dauphin and Minedosa.
The statement noted that these communities have favorable conditions for the development of strong thunderstorms, which can cause strong winds, hail and torrential rain. There is also a risk of tornadoes.
Environment Canada explained the causes of the thunderstorms, which will take place on Saturday afternoon and evening, are unstable air mass and a low-pressure system from the United States.
The Meteorological Agency warns that strong winds can blow loose objects, damage buildings, break tree branches and overturn vehicles.
Heavy rain can cause sudden flooding and accumulation of water on the roads.
Residents are reminded to be prepared for difficult times and to hide if threatening weather approaches.
