About 15 people were evacuated from homes and commercial buildings after a fire broke out in the Plateau on Saturday afternoon – some of whom were in the process of receiving new tattoos.
The fire broke out on St. Laurent Blvd., between Sherbrooke Street and Pine Avenue.
More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene to put out the fire.
No one was injured, according to the Montreal Fire Department (SIM).
SIM said the fire could be an act of arson; Investigators have been called on the spot to determine whether this is a criminal act.
The owners of Tatouage Locust told CTV News that they called 911 after they noticed flames in their backyard around 1:30 p.m.
While I was tattooing, I actually just turned to look outside and we saw the fire rise to about 30 feet, “said owner Amy Boucher.
– It had spread very quickly.
Staff and customers left the building, tattoos unfinished.
The fire with four alarms eventually spread to two neighboring buildings.
The evacuees are allowed to return to their homes and businesses until early Saturday night.
Boucher later told CTV News that the back of the store had been burned, but everything was still intact.
