No criminal charges for driver in Victoria colliding and fleeing, filmed by camera

Victoria Police say the driver has been charged under the Motor Vehicles Act with intimidating bumping and running, filmed by a camera in December.

The collision happened around 9 am on December 30, as the victim was crossing the street at a green light at the intersection of Bay and Blanchard streets.

The video shows someone driving a heavily snow-covered MINI Countryman who hits a woman on the sidewalk, then continues through a red traffic light, nearly colliding with another vehicle.

The good Samaritans came to the rescue of the pedestrian, and the police claim that she did not receive life-threatening injuries.

Investigators seized a suspect vehicle the next day.

Police said on Friday that the driver had been charged under the BC Motor Vehicles Act and the Motor Vehicle Regulations, but had not faced criminal charges.

Charges include driving without proper care and attention, not staying at the scene of a collision, driving with an obstructed view and an illegible sign.

The driver was fined $ 1,075 and given eight unfavorable points.
