Apple’s iCloud Documents and Data synchronization service has officially been discontinued

After announcing last year that the iCloud Documents and Data service will be discontinued, Apple today updated a support document for migrating from iCloud Documents and Data to iCloud Drive, noting that the legacy synchronization service has been officially withdrawn and replaced by the latter, MacRumors reported. .

Those who previously used iCloud Documents and Data to sync files between devices have already moved their iCloud Drive accounts from Apple, but they will need to activate iCloud Drive on their devices to access their synced data. .

iCloud Documents and Data, our legacy document synchronization service, has been discontinued and replaced by iCloud Drive. If you used iCloud Documents and Data, your account has been migrated to iCloud Drive.

If you used the iCloud Documents and Data service, you need to turn on iCloud Drive to view your files. When you switch to iCloud Drive, the amount of storage space your saved files use in iCloud doesn’t change.

iCloud Documents and Data was Apple’s core data synchronization service until Cupertino-based, California-based technology giant introduced iCloud Drive in 2014.

While the older ‌cloud storage and synchronization service stores data in application-specific folders and allows only that application to access stored data, iCloud Drive‌ is more holistic and allows users to access all files that store and sync from one place: the iOS and iPadOS Files app, the iCloud Drive section of macOS Finder, the iCloud Drive section of iCloud.com, or the iCloud app for Windows on PCs.

The support document also outlines the minimum system requirements for using iCloud Drive on iOS devices, Macs, and the iCloud.com network.
