Two killed in plane crash near Golden Gate Bridge, sheriff’s office said

The plane, identified as a single-engine Vans RV-10 fixed-wing personal aircraft, crashed on a hill in Marin Headlands near Slacker Hill, the statement said. The plane’s emergency beacon was activated about two minutes later, he added.

The sheriff’s office said first aid teams had been sent to search the plane, but their efforts were hampered by “heavy fog and condensation that blur visibility in the area.” The plane was found around 2 pm, and the two inside were found dead on the spot.

The identities of the victims will be announced on Monday, the sheriff’s office said on Twitter.

The crash will be investigated by the National Park Service, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the sheriff’s office, the statement said. The cause and manner of death will not be announced until the investigation is completed.

The posthumous toxicological examination is scheduled for the beginning of this week, the sheriff’s office announced.
