Train crash in Maine Amtrak killed

An Amtrak train in Maine hit and killed two people in the town of Bideford on Sunday morning, according to police.

The Bideford Police Department told Fox News that the people were hit around 11 a.m. about 1,000 feet from Main Street.

81 people were on board the northern train, police said. There are no reports of casualties on board.

The incident delayed several Amtrak trains before they returned to service and run, Amtrak said on its Twitter page.

An Amtrak spokesman said people had broken the rails when they came in contact with the train, WGME reported. “Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident,” the spokesman said.

Passengers on the train from Portland to Boston have been transferred to another train, police said.
